Internet Civilization: What Is My Blog About?
By J.C – Dec 24, 2025
Welcome to Internet Civilization. A digital travel guide to help you explore the internet. This blog treats the internet like a world worth exploring, not just consuming.
Examples of What I Will Be Posting
- r/memes
- Wikipedia
- Bad Ben
- YouTube channels
- Websites
- SFW (Safe For Work)
Examples of What I Will NOT Post
- NSFW (Not Safe For Work)
Where Will I Be Posting?
I will be posting on my Neocities website, YouTube, TikTok, and maybe Reddit.
What Is the Point of This?
I made this blog for two big reasons. First, I like writing when I'm not being forced to by the US education system. Second, I want to do something fun with my life.
Essay November 30 2025
Essay: The future of AI
If you are unfamiliar with AI in general then go read the essay “A Very Gentle Introduction to Large Language Models without the Hype” by Mark Riedl. To quickly summarize that essay:
“Artificial Intelligence: An entity that performs behaviors that a person might reasonably call intelligent if a human were to do something similar.” (Riedl)
Types of AI
- Narrow AI is predictable. AGI is not.
- The three main types discussed are narrow AI, tool AI, and AGI.
- AGI is general, autonomous, and intelligent. Tool AI has two of these. Narrow AI has only one.
- AGI is the most unpredictable. Narrow AI is the most predictable.
Why Do Companies and Countries Want AI
- Money, science, and military power.
- Companies see AI as a driver of productivity and profit. They want AGI to replace expensive expert labor.
- Countries want AGI as an economic, scientific, and military resource. The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission even recommends a Manhattan Project-like AGI program.
What Will Happen
Society Will Come Crashing Down
- Society was not built for AGI.
- Large-scale unemployment will happen faster than society can adapt.
- AGI will make expensive tasks cheap and easy.
- AI-generated content will flood the internet, damaging culture and trustworthy knowledge.
- Runaway AI is a real risk.
We Will Lose Some Control of AGI
- We cannot make AI deeply care about humans.
- AI is trained, not designed, making it unpredictable.
- Refusal behavior already exists in LLMs like ChatGPT and Gemini.
- Future superintelligent AI could refuse to help humanity while believing it is doing the right thing.
We Will Increase the Risk of Large-Scale War
- AI race similar to a space race.
- Some outcomes favor humanity. Others favor AI.
- If AGI is uncontrolled, it threatens everyone. If controlled, it threatens those who fall behind.
We Will Give Control to AGI
- Competitive pressure will force AI decision-making.
- CEOs and leaders will rely on AGI because competitors do.
- Eventually AI will run systems and humans will lose control.
How to Stop AGI
Transparency
Cryptographic permission systems could be built into AI chips, allowing governments to monitor and shut down dangerous systems.
Compute Limits
Training and runtime FLOP limits could slow progress and buy time for society to adapt.
Liability
Everyone involved in creating AGI should be legally responsible unless they can prove the system is narrow and safe.
What Is Happening Now
The EU Artificial Intelligence Act bans harmful manipulation and requires disclosure of AI-generated content.
What We Should Do Instead
Tool AI
- Tool AI gives most benefits with far less risk.
- It is more predictable and controllable than AGI.
- AGI combines intelligence and unpredictability, making it dangerous.
Summary
AI will impact humanity for better or worse. We can choose to ban AGI and focus on tool AI. That choice mostly belongs to governments.
Think of the 1997 chess match. Garry Kasparov versus Deep Blue. Narrow AI already won once.
